Hi, my name is Portia Harris, and I grew up in Monterey Bay, California. My journey to becoming a doula began in 2018 after a challenging birth experience with my son. After laboring for 30 hours, I had an unexpected C-section and faced limited support from my partner, as we were going through a divorce. Alone in North Carolina, I managed everything myself. Once my son was born, I moved back to California to care for him and my grandmother. This experience made me realize how difficult it is to navigate childbirth and family care. Inspired by this, I founded Doulas Due LLC in November 2021.

Today, I live happily with my current Partner, firstborn and set of twins who were born in 2023. My partner has five boys of his own, and together we raise eight children with the support of their mothers as our village in Maryland. My mission is to empower mothers and help them and their families make informed decisions to create their ideal birth experience. I hold certifications in birth and postpartum support, childbirth education, lactation counseling, and newborn care from the International Doula Institute and Lactation Education Resources. Serving the DMV and Baltimore areas, I’ve connected with amazing people and opportunities, joining organizations like Doulas of Baltimore, HushHush Little Baby, and Maryland State Doulas. I’m continually learning and working towards becoming an IBCLC, nurse, or midwife. I’m excited to support families and bridge the gap in support, education, and empowerment in childbirth.
